  1. Seems like a fresh new install helped. Without installing SP1 I mean. Guess it's better to just download official updates from microsoft rather than installing your own for those who get problems after SP1...
  2. hah. same error. Googled around and found that in most cases when people had trouble with that error was just that they were trying to install something that they had already installed. So my guess is that this fix must have already been in sp1 package and that's why I get this error. If so, then anyway that fix doesn't seem to solve anything ^^ (because control panel disappeared after sp1 update) Thanks for help
  3. Thank you. If you manage to get it faster from MS than me then please reply here I will also reply as soon as I get it. And I will answer if the fix solved my problem
  4. Btw it is Ultimate edition x64 if it helps...
  5. I could tell you if you tell me how to find that exact version Many functions don't work at the moment so give at least 2 ways of how to find the version. P.s. I loaded cmd and it shows Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6001]
  6. My control panel stopped working aswell. I guess it happened after installing the ATI radeon drivers. Removing them didn't help. Searched in many forums about this problem and there seems to be an exact fix for my problem (which is - disappearing CP when trying to open it, can't open some games, My Computer properties won't open etc.). All the things that don't open are named in Microsoft's article which later redirects to a link, telling to download hotfix "KB929637 - Error message during Windows Vista startup if the Nero InCD program is installed and if the "Special pool" feature is enabled in the Driver Verifier utility: "Stop 00000050". That should solve my problem, the the thing is - Microsoft has to send me the link to this fix and I have to wait.... dunno how many. Found this hotfix here, but it doesn't open as it says that the update doesn't apply to my system, tho I downloaded the x64 version and my Vista is Ultimate x64. Why doesn't it apply to my system? Can it be because it is "v2" and there were some changes from the v1? Maybe the problem is because I installed sp1 earlier?
  7. left uninstalling the sp1 and went to sleep. woke up 7h later and the uninstall process was still in progress (lol). Booted vista setup from a dvd and noticed that there was only 90mb free in my C:\ which means the uninstall process ate like 8gb of my free space. Formatted hdd, clean install vista ultimate x64 and as soon as windows loaded, installed vista sp1 immediately without installing any drivers. Windows loaded after sp1 installation, installed all drivers and programs - no more problems. I guess the main solution is to remove all drivers before installing sp1 and then reinstall them just to make sure everything goes fine.
  8. Installed x64 vista sp1 and after that half of vista's programs stopped functioning including control panel. Did anyone else get this? There was a hotfix on microsoft website that should fix control panel and other programs but after downloading (x64) and executing it told me that "your system does not apply" or something like it. Searched the web for more than a couple of hours, tried many suggestions but nothing worked. Trying to uninstall sp1 now through safe mode (woohoo cp works in safe mode). How are other ppl doing with sp1? Write here your experience and the type of vista you're using btw, sorry for double post
