I have Windows Vista on HP Pavilion laptop. Using Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000. Pointer moves but I constantly can't click on objects. If I open Task Manager, it unfreezes for a while, then same problem occurs. The touch pad has the same issue (pointer moves but can't select an object by clicking). HP Support tried to help (unsuccessfully), the same problem occurred when the tech had remote access to my laptop so I don't think it is a hardware issue. Really annoying. Any clues to how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds a bit like Click Lock is enabled. It's in mouse properties in the control pannel.
