the imstallation fails with error 8000FFFF. This is the first time I ever had a hotfix not installing.

I have observed this problem with several Windows 7 hotfixes.

My list of affected hotfixes includes: kb2591271-v2, kb2627273-v4, kb2697738-v3, kb2732500-v2, kb2732840-v3, and kb2781512-v2.

The solution that has worked for me for each of these is to uninstall the current version (from Installed Updates in the Control Panel), restart the computer, and then install the new version of the hotfix.
