  7. The Jet database issue has been resolved for all versions of Windows: For Windows 7 SP1 and Server 2008 R2 SP1: KB4048957 - November 14, 2017—KB4048957 (Monthly Rollup) For Windows 8 and Server 2012: KB4048959 - November 14, 2017—KB4048959 (Monthly Rollup) For Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2: KB4048958 - November 14, 2017—KB4048958 (Monthly Rollup) For Windows 10 version 1507 (initial version released July 2015): KB4048956 - November 14, 2017—KB4048956 (OS Build 10240.17673) For Windows 10 version 1511: KB4052232 - November 2, 2017—KB4052232 (OS Build 10586.1177) NOTE: KB4052232 is the last update for Windows 10 version 1511 that applies to all of its editions (Education, Enterprise, Home, and Pro). Starting with the November 14, 2017 update (KB4048952), which also includes the fix, only Windows 10 version 1511 Enterprise and Windows 10 version 1511 Education editions will be able to install updates: KB4048952 - November 14, 2017—KB4048952 (OS Build 10586.1232) Editorial: This is just the latest headache coming out of Microsoft. You would think that after the LIVING HELL Microsoft put people through with Windows 10, they would AT THE VERY LEAST support the garbage they force-fed customers for as long as they need it. Microsoft's Windows 10 as a Service model is nothing more than another way to screw customers over. For Windows 10 version 1607 and Server 2016: KB4048953 - November 14, 2017—KB4048953 (OS Build 14393.1884) A new Servicing Stack update was released concurrently with this update: KB4049065 - Servicing stack update for Windows 10 Version 1607 and Windows Server 2016: November 14, 2017 If you need to download and install this update manually because Windows Update isn't working properly, make sure you download and install the Servicing Stack update first. For Windows 10 version 1703: KB4048954 - November 14, 2017—KB4048954 (OS Build 15063.726 and 15063.728) A new Servicing Stack update was released concurrently with this update: KB4049011 - Servicing stack update for Windows 10 Version 1703: November 14, 2017 If you need to download and install this update manually because Windows Update isn't working properly, make sure you download and install the Servicing Stack update first. For Windows 10 version 1709 and Server 2016 version 1709: KB4048955 - November 14, 2017—KB4048955 (OS Build 16299.64)
  8. Once in a while, Microsoft releases a fix that addresses an issue that has plagued Windows users for years. This is one such fix. There was in issue in USBHUB.SYS that randomly caused memory corruption and could result in random system crashes. As USB devices are ubiquitous, virtually all Windows users may be affected by it at one time or another. The symptom you observe when it happens is that Windows just destabilizes and/or crashes for no apparent reason. NOTE: Please familiarize yourself with the Known issues in each of these updates before installing them. I can tell you that the workaround for the Jet database issue, affecting Access 2007's ability to work with Excel files, works. Editorial: In my view, any inconvenience these updates may cause is far outweighed by the fix. Following are the KB articles and download links for all supported versions of Windows: For Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2: KB4041686 - October 17, 2017—KB4041686 (Preview of Monthly Rollup) This update is available from Windows Update as an Optional update or from Microsoft Update Catalog. For Windows 8 and Server 2012: KB4041692 - October 17, 2017—KB4041692 (Preview of Monthly Rollup) This update is available from Windows Update as an Optional update or from Microsoft Update Catalog. For Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2: KB4041685 - October 17, 2017—KB4041685 (Preview of Monthly Rollup) This update is available from Windows Update as an Optional update or from Microsoft Update Catalog.
