cgthamm
Remote Desktop Connection client 8.1 is now available for Windows 7 / Windows Server 2008 R2. You can read about it in the following Knowledge Base article: KB2830477 - Update for RemoteApp and Desktop Connections features is available for Windows The previous RDC 8.0 update included both the server and the client components. In a Remote Desktop connection, the server component is what runs on the computer to which you are connecting; the client component is what runs on the computer from which you are establishing the connection. RDC 8.1 updates ONLY the client. If you have not yet installed the RDC 8.0 update, and proceed to install RDC 8.1, you will no longer be able to install the RDC 8.0 server components, unless you first uninstall the RDC 8.1 client. To avoid this hassle, and maintain the most secure and feature-rich Remote Desktop connectivity across all versions of Windows, install all of the following updates in order: KB2574819 - An update is available that adds support for DTLS in Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 KB2592687 - Description of the Remote Desktop Protocol 8.0 update for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 KB2857650 - Update that improves the RemoteApp and Desktop Connections features is available for Windows 7 KB2830477 - Update for RemoteApp and Desktop Connections features is available for Windows (NOTE: It is not obvious from the title, but this is the update that installs the RDP 8.1 client) KB2913751 - Smart card redirection in remote sessions fails in a Windows 7 SP1-based RDP 8.1 client KB2923545 - Update for RDP 8.1 is available for Windows 7 SP1 KB2965788 - Remote Desktop Security Release for Windows: June 10, 2014 KB2985461 - Error 0x800401f0 when you update RemoteApp and Desktop Connections feeds in Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 KB2984972 - Update for RDC 7.1 to support restricted administration logons on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 KB2984976 - RDP 8.0 update for restricted administration on Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 NOTE: These updates are all available from the Microsoft Download Center. If you have already installed RDC 8.1 (i.e. kb2830477), you will need to uninstall it (from Installed Updates, in the Control Panel), install kb2592687, and then re-install it. - cgthamm Edited October 21, 2014 by cgthamm
