931770 seems to fix the problem your describing. You can download it from the download archive, link is in the header just search for "931770"

I tried running the hotfix but it gave me an error "The update does not apply to your system"...

I'm running Vista Business and ran the correct 32bit hotfix...

Hmm.. the hotfix has had over twenty thousand hits from here and looking around the net knowone else has had that problem.

I wish I could be of more help, google spits nothing out on that error and I don`t have vista installed yet. Waiting on a spare HD to arrive.

Oops, sorry, I guess the update was already installed. That's why it said it doesn't apply to my system. But my transfers are still excruciatingly slow. I've uninstalled the hotfix and reinstalled with no improvement...

A few notes on Vista File Transfer performance:

1. The 931770 hotfix improves performance somewhat.

2. Disabling IPv6 gives additional improvement.

3. When transferring large folders containing many files, Vista wastes much time calculating the transfer time remaining. But once the actual transfer gets going, I get rates of around 30 Mbps on a 100 Mbps LAN after disabling IPv6 and with the 931770 hotfix installed.

4. File transfer times also depend on the file types being transferred. For example, I found that when transferring avi files, Vista wastes time generating preview icons and ratings if the target directory is currently visible in Explorer.

5. A better way to transfer files is to mount the remote drive and then use an xcopy command in a Windows Console.

6. But the best performance by far was achieved when using an FTP client and server. I got rates of 85 Mbps over a 100 Mbps LAN.

Tests were done between a Vista Home Premium machine and a W2000 Server via 100 Mbps Ethernet.

I 've got the same problem.

Transferring files to internal sata disk or to external usb and firewire disks.

It 's just pathetic. Vista is the most retarded OS ever made. This is the year 2007 and transferring a 700mb file takes about 15 minutes.

Seriously, downloading it from the internet is sometimes just as fast.

Now the hotfix is for transfers over network. The icing on this shitcake is that you have to call tech support. Paying this amount of money for an ultimate edition of crap, they should come bring it to your doorstep and then install it for you whilst giving you a thai massage.

I hope next time the Boeiing lands face down into Redmond.
